Well...posting on this blog is harder than I expected it to be. I guess because I am so use to not actually being myself...and now that I have the opportunity, I am speechless. Funny huh?
I guess I will start with something that has been on my heart lately. I have been struggling with the label that most church members give the pastor's wife....you can call it a stereotype if you want....or maybe even a double standard. What ever think suits it best.
I am talking about when church members expect more of the Pastor & his wife than they are willing to do or give themselves. I just don't get it. I know that the Pastor and his wife are to lead the congregation....especially by example. But does that give anyone else permission to expect more from me than they are willing do?

I have recenlty been told by a church member that the Pastor's Wife is to be more mindful of her speech and actions just simply because she is the Pastor's wife.
What? That's crazy! Aren't we all sinners saved by grace
What do you think about it?

Are you expecting more from your Pastor or his wife than you are willing to do?

No. Is the answer to your question. My Pastor and his Wife happen to be my family and so I see them as well,, as them,,. My Pastor is my brother in-law and so I see him inter act with his brother (my husband) like his brother and not like a church member.
But even though they (my Pastor and his Wife) are like that at my Mother in-laws, they are still like that at church. The only difference is at church he has on a suit.
I guess what I'm saying is, you ought to be able to be yourself. And if your church members think they need more from you just remind them that the Pastors wife is just that, his Wife and is not an ordained office according the bible.
I think it's true that people do expect more from the pastor and his family. I am in awe of all that my Pastor and his wife do, and it's sad that so much of it is just taken for granted.
I have so much enjoyed reading your blog. I feel your pain and I wish that it was different but I have been in church for 54 years. It is the same even today. I believe that The preacher is held to a higher standard because of the office he holds but we are all suppose to be Christ-Like as Christians. The Pastors family unfortunately are just as your blog describes in a glass house. That seems to be just a part of the place God has chosen for you and your family to be. You just follow you husband and don't worry about the church members. If they are saved and they see your love for the Lord and them, they will learn to not be so hard on you, hopefully. I know they will if they respect their Pastor as the Lord has told us to do. They bring great hurt on themselves when they don't. It is the Pastor who one day will have to give an acount of them to the Lord.
I am a church member but I have had many Pastor's wives as best friends. So, I do know about the pain, the wonder, the dissappointment, the betrayal and such as in volved but you can't be any different than the Saviour. He suffered all those things and more.
If you ever need encouragement, I will be here to listen and hopefully God can use me to encourage you.
My son is my Pastor. He is a great Pastor. I am sure that I have dissappointed him at times but he has taught me so much and I thank the Lord that He put him over me. His wife is one of my greatest blessings. She lives what she teaches. I pray that God blesses them and you and your husband , and all other Pastors and their families in very special ways their whole lives through. I know he will. So God bless and just keep living for Him connie from Texas
By the way, it is me again. You don't have to print that comment if you don't want to. It was just something that I wanted to say to you. connie from Texas
